First Night New Bedford Depends on Community Support for its Success

The First Night New Bedford Committee is seeking volunteers and sponsorship donations for the upcoming New Year's Eve celebration.

"First Night has been celebrated on New Year's Eve in New Bedford for over 20 years and we really need corporate and individual sponsors to help us make this the best year ever," says First Night New Bedford president Susan Mathews. "We have outstanding regional entertainment scheduled and financial support from area businesses and the community is crucial to First Night's success."

Volunteers are also needed throughout the evening on First Night.

It's a great way to be involved in a community event and also have fun. We depend on volunteer support to help accomplish all that needs to be done. Without the help of committed and energetic volunteers First Night would not happen.

Volunteers will each be given 3- to 4-hour shifts on New Year's Eve to help check for buttons at venue sites, assist at Custom House Square and perform other necessary tasks. Volunteers will receive complimentary admission to enjoy the rest of the celebration.

First Night New Bedford is the fourth oldest First Night celebration in the nation. It is supported each year primarily by fundraising events, sales of attendance buttons, contributions from community-minded businesses and volunteer participation. Without the help of such a committed and energetic volunteers First Night would not happen.
